What is math to you & why does math matter?
I have always really enjoyed math. I like it because it is a universal language of sorts (minus the miles/ kilometers & Fahrenheit/ Celsius.) I also enjoy it because I feel like there are so many ways to creatively think & work through problems. Yesterday during our math warm up, we found a way to solve a word problem with 3 completely different answers that were all correct.

We have studied a variety of topics in the last 7 weeks of during science & social studies. I must admit that I really enjoy science because it allows the most exploration and questioning with our class. I also really enjoy social studies because I love Texas history. As a teacher, many schools often combine & cram this period into a period the never seems long enough.
Now as a learner..... What have you enjoyed the most - science or social studies? Why? You must also state one thing you have learned about either topic & a fun fact would be interesting too. 1. I had one of the best summers’ & travel experiences I have had in a while. In a nutshell: I spent 5 weeks in Guatemala. I went with my church for week to serve & learn Guatemala, City. After that, I journeyed to a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. This pueblo was called San Pedro: I lived with a family, swam todos los dias, and took Spanish classes for a month. It was nice to truly be the student again, to feel stimulated & challenged. In San Pedro, unlike other places, I was immediately accepted into a beautiful culture & family. Plus I had a wonderful Guatemalan mamma's home-cooking for a month.
2. Mi abuela en Austin turned 90! Can you guess what mi abuela means? 3. I did a mini tour de Texas & enjoyed a lot of fun in the sun with family, friends, & swimming. Tell me what you did. I can hardly wait to meet you & hear about your adventure.... List 3 things that you learned this year. Please be as specific as possible. You can also write about your summer plans if you are interested.
1. Tell me something you learned about insects. Be specific with their life cycle, molting, exoskeleton, metamorphosis, habitat or adaptations
2. Where else do you see patterns or cycles that are circle stories? (be specific nature, fiction stories, seasons etc?) This month we have been researching about biographies. We have analyzed & classified what authors do who write biographies & our grade is doing biography reports that will be published & displayed in the library.
Please list 1 thing that you learned about authors who write biographies & 1 fun fact about the famous person you are researching.
I have never been so flabbergasted when I came back to my room after the holidays and Glacier was still out in my room. Not only that but he had managed to move Santa and Frosty to the couch! What a little sneak. There was no note this time but I just had to capture it before I put my holiday decorations up for the year. (In the past I put them up before I left for Houston with my family. This year I was in such a rush to get to HTOWN I was unable to put my holiday decorations up like I normally do...) Maybe now I will wait till Epiphany to clean everything up.... Remember piphany is the celebration of when the wise men first encountered baby Jesus. (That is why there are technically 12 days of Christmas.) I went on a 5 day road trip to Nashville and back. The plan was to go visit my cousin in Nashville and see St. Paul & the Broken Bones for New Years Eve. The show was amazing, and we had a great time in Nashville (as usual.) This was my first time to drive out there though. We stopped in Memphis to see Elvis' & some ducks at a historic hotel "The Peabody" & relaxed in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Although the destination was my cousin in Nashville I had the most fun in the whole process of the adventure.... “Life is a journey, not a destination.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson Tell Glacier and your friends about your 2 week holiday. I learned so much about Elvis' life & impact. I wouldn't necessarily call myself the biggest fan either... But I have a lot more respect for his integrity, generosity & his music in general after visiting. He still has many records for most consecutive performances with highest ticket sales to day in Las Vegas. Fun facts: He only co-wrote 2 of his songs (most of his songs were written for him), he married his wife Priscilla in Las Vegas. What were your favorite moments with STEM DAY? Tell me one thing you learned and something cool you built or created during STEM DAY.
Veterans day is coming up November 11th. As a way to say thank you we will get a package together to send off cards & little tokens to the men & women who are still trying to instill freedom in war torn places in the middle east. Although I do not understand why we are there, and I wish there were no war torn countries in the world, it has always been a fact of generations for many centuries before us.
